Displaying Digital Products on Skillshare
Prohibited Content and Actions within Digital Products
Policy Exceptions Between Skillshare and Superpeer
Overview
In order to ensure all digital products offered are safe and applicable, all users who host digital products on Skillshare or Superpeer need to accept Skillshare's Digital Product Terms, Terms of Service, and Privacy Policy. Digital products may be listed on both Skillshare and Superpeer but take note that our policies differ between digital product listings for Skillshare and for Superpeer. If you would like your digital products to be listed on Skillshare as well as Superpeer, in addition to the terms above, you are expected to abide by Skillshare’s Community Guidelines when creating listings for digital products.
Displaying Digital Products on Skillshare
Digital products are hosted on Superpeer and can be integrated into the Skillshare experience. In order for your individual digital product to be visible on Skillshare, the following criteria must be met:
- Upload at least 1 file from your device. A shared link is not allowed.
- Under Settings, select ‘Anyone’ and set a price.
- Toggle OFF: Hide product from your Superpeer profile page.
- Select a category and subcategory for your digital product.
You’ll also need to connect your Skillshare account to your Superpeer account under Account Settings > Integrations. If you do not yet have a Skillshare account, you’ll be prompted to sign up to teach. Once we’ve processed your sign-up form, you’ll be able to connect your account.
Language Restrictions
At this time we are only accepting digital product offerings in English on Skillshare. There are no language restrictions for digital products that remain solely on Superpeer.
Prohibited Content and Actions within Digital Products
The following are NOT permitted within any digital product on either Skillshare or Superpeer:
- Digital products cannot be immaterial or abstract items (e.g. prayers, a blessing.) This includes providing a service, e.g. creating websites, logos, or creating design themes.
- Users may not use digital products to license their name and/or likeness in order to endorse or promote third party products. Digital products may not include the sale and/or distribution of physical items, including dropshipping or printing-on-demand.
- Digital products cannot be offered on a donation-based price. All digital products must have a set price listed.
- Digital products cannot be uploaded elsewhere for free or a lesser value than listed on Skillshare or Superpeer.
- Digital product listings cannot be used as a “tip jar” or “donation” offering.
- Digital products cannot consist of resold and/or plagiarized items. Users may not resell materials as their own digital product if they don’t possess the necessary rights to do so. Additionally, you may not offer for sale any digital product that falls under “master resell rights”.
- Digital products cannot be required resources to complete a class offered on Skillshare or Superpeer.
- On Skillshare, creators may post supplemental, class-specific materials as digital products, but tools that are required to complete a class must be freely available under Projects & Resources.
- On Superpeer, users may post supplemental, series-specific materials as digital products, but tools that are required to complete a course must be freely available.
- Digital products promoting illegal activity.
- Digital products providing information on how to sell, buy, cultivate, dispense, market or monetize cannabis, cannabis-related products, or CBD products.
- Digital products including or sharing access to nudity or explicit content meant to be sexually gratifying.
- Digital products promoting or recruiting for pyramid schemes, multi-level marketing campaigns, or other false earning scams.
- Digital products providing instructions on how to build, use, buy/sell, print, or trade weapons. Any digital products involving weapons, arms, and/or activities that can lead to physical harm (including self-defense or self-defense featuring weapons) are prohibited.
- Digital products intended to support a political candidate, fund a political campaign, or engage in political advocacy, including with respect to political causes or organizations.
- Digital products promoting disinformation or content that is deceptive or manipulative (e.g. conspiracy theories, pseudoscience).
- Digital products that promise or guarantee unrealistic outcomes (e.g. financial guarantees, miracle cures).
Policy Exceptions Between Skillshare and Superpeer
We allow users to offer digital products on a wide range of topics on both Skillshare and Superpeer. Though Superpeer is part of the Skillshare family, there are several digital product policies that differ between Skillshare and Superpeer.
Creating Digital Products Using Shared Links
In order for your digital product to be visible on Skillshare, the following criteria must be met, your digital product cannot consist of a shared link.
Exception: While you cannot create a digital product consisting of a link and distribute it on Skillshare, we do permit teachers to add the link to a document, save it as a PDF, and upload that as their digital product. This workaround is limited to the following digital products:
- Notion templates
- Canva templates
- Adobe preset files
- LUTs (Lookup Tables)
Shared links are permitted for digital products hosted solely on Superpeer.
Selling Professional Advice
On Superpeer, users are permitted to list digital products offering advice or resources that should be obtained by a certified professional (e.g. medical, legal, tax advice, etc.) unless related to the following prohibited topics:
- Digital products providing legal services including but not limited to bankruptcy legal advice and bail bonds.
- Digital products providing telehealth or telemedicine advice, services, devices or products, including but not limited to pharmaceuticals.
On Skillshare, users are prohibited from listing digital products offering advice or resources that should be obtained by a certified professional (e.g. medical, legal, tax advice, etc.) unless related to the following permitted topic:
- Digital products offering financial advice are permitted but must include a disclaimer clearly and obviously disclosing that the digital product is not intended to offer investment, tax, or financial planning advice. Teachers must also follow all legal requirements that might apply, including any that require the disclosure of any registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or other securities regulators.
The list above is non-exhaustive and may change from time-to-time. Please note that our policies on digital products differ from the Content & Topic Restrictions we enforce in Skillshare’s class catalog. This is because the purpose of digital products is different and digital products are paid for separately from the curated catalog of classes that come with a Skillshare membership.
If you come across any digital products that you believe violate our Community Guidelines or the prohibited topics list above, please reach out to our team at help@skillshare.com.
