Call for Content: Short-form Classes (September 2024)

Teachers can now publish short-form classes on Skillshare, and we’re excited to showcase more of this content within our member community. Read on to learn what content we’re looking for, and how to ensure it meets our guidelines.

In this article:

Opportunity Overview

Skillshare’s Curation team is looking to grow our catalog of short-form classes (under 15 minutes in length). Our goal is to feature more short content across Skillshare, especially on browse pages and on the homepage banner. We’ve only got a handful of quality classes under 15 minutes right now, so we have a wide open field of opportunity!

Update: At this time we’re prioritizing classes in Art & Illustration, so we're especially looking for classes in this category.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for short-form content on all topics; see our In-demand Topics list to know what members are searching for most. But we’d especially love to see classes focused on any of the following directions:

  • Small-scale projects, such as a simple but trendy craft.
  • Very specific skills, such as a famously tricky tool in Adobe Photoshop, or a specific painting technique people often struggle with.
  • A short tutorial that features a digital product you’re selling on Skillshare. Seeing first-hand how a product is used in your practice, such as a template or brush, can be really effective!
As mentioned, we’re looking for classes in all topic areas, but new, short-form classes in Art & Illustration is our biggest priority.

All classes should meet our Class Quality Guidelines. To qualify as a short-form class:

  • Your class can be as short as 2 minutes and as long as 15 minutes in length.
  • Your class needs to include a class project, but it does not need to include a formal introduction or outro video lesson to be considered complete.

Classes longer than 15 minutes in length need to include an introduction, outro, a class project that can be posted in the project gallery section, and several lessons to be considered complete.

Please note that all first lessons in any class continue to be free. That means if you publish a class that contains only one lesson, however long it may be, that one-lesson class will be offered for free and you won't earn any royalties from it. As an alternative, some teachers have been including a very short first lesson to introduce the topic and to ensure the majority of the class is paid, while keeping the total run time under 15 minutes.

How to Participate

Our Curation team evaluates all quality content published on Skillshare. We encourage you to publish by September 15 to be considered for promotional opportunities this fall.
