Giveaways offered by Skillshare teachers are the sole responsibility of those teachers. If you intend on offering such a giveaway, there are several things you should be aware of and take into account. Please remember that Skillshare cannot and is not offering you legal advice.
- There is a strict and complicated body of law around the offering of giveaways that varies from U.S. state to U.S. state and from country to country. Complying with one, let alone several, of these laws at the same time can be difficult.
- If you are going to conduct a giveaway involving your teaching on Skillshare, you must ensure that you are in full compliance with all applicable laws, including the laws in your jurisdiction and in any jurisdiction in which you offer a giveaway. If you are unsure of what laws apply in your relevant jurisdictions, or are unsure how to comply with them, you should either discuss your plans with a knowledgeable attorney or otherwise refrain from offering a giveaway.
- Once you have ensured that your giveaway is legally compliant, you also must ensure that, among other things, you make good on your promise when you conduct the giveaway, e.g., you should follow through and award the specified prize to a winner in accordance with the rules you define for the giveaway, regardless of the level of participation; you should not cancel a giveaway after it has been offered.
- While you might ask students for specific interactions in your classes to be eligible for a giveaway, you are not permitted to require them to submit a positive review.
- Skillshare takes no responsibility for any giveaway you offer. Any liability stemming from your giveaway will fall entirely and solely on you.
Skillshare is committed to upholding a positive experience for teachers and students alike; our Terms of Service, Teaching Policies, and Community Guidelines guide our users towards that goal. We encourage teachers to engage with their Skillshare audience in rich and meaningful ways, but we do not tolerate abuse or illegality of any kind. In cases of illegal, fraudulent, or improper activity by a teacher in connection with a giveaway, including any action that is contrary to the guidelines specified above, Skillshare may take disciplinary action, including removing the teacher’s content or account from Skillshare.
