How can I set screen sharing permissions for 1-on-1 Sessions?

If you’re using the in-browser videoconferencing tool for hosting your 1-on-1, we recommend setting your screen sharing permissions in your browser prior to starting a call.

In this article:

About Screen Sharing in 1-on-1 Sessions

As a 1-on-1 host, screen sharing can be useful for looking at source material with a participant or for going over any assets sent to you ahead of the session. It is possible to set screen share permissions after you join a 1-on-1 Session, but we recommend setting them up beforehand to avoid disruptions.

We recommend using Google Chrome for the best experience on Superpeer.

Enabling Sharing Permissions in Chrome for MacOS

To enable permissions in Chrome:

  1. Under System Preferences, open Security & Privacy.
  2. Click the lock icon to allow changes.
  3. Under Screen Recording, allow access to Google Chrome.

After doing this once, you should now be able to screen share during 1-on-1 Sessions from your device.

Tip: If you’ve already started a call and forgotten to grant permission for screen sharing ahead of time, go ahead and follow the prompts for setting up permissions for Google Chrome above. You will need to restart your browser, but keep in mind you can use the same link to rejoin the call as before.

Enabling Sharing Permissions in Safari for MacOS

While we recommend using Chrome for the best experience, you can join a call or stream using Safari. You do not need to set up permissions ahead of time; you can allow it during a call.

  1. Click the Share Screen button
  2. In the modal that says, Allow “superpeer.com” to observe your screen?, select Allow.

Enabling Sharing Permissions in Windows-based Browsers

At the moment Windows doesn't have any system-level permissions for screen access. If you're running into problems or getting an error, double-check your browser settings or reach us at teach@skillshare.com.

Troubleshooting Screen Sharing Errors

If you’re seeing an error "Could not start screen sharing", try any of the following:

  • Check to make sure permissions have been set for the browser you are using.
  • In System Preferences, try deselecting the browser and then selecting it again.
