Content on Skillshare — classes, digital products, and 1-on-1 Sessions — cover a wide variety of topics related to creativity, the arts, design, freelance, entrepreneurship, lifestyle, and personal development. There’s a lot of room for unique and specific skills, as well as self expression within these fields, but some topic areas are off-limits on Skillshare.
Please note that the list below is non-exhaustive and may change from time-to-time. Teachers who create classes on prohibited topics risk having negative actions taken on their accounts, including account deactivation.
Language Restrictions
Skillshare only accepts classes taught in English, French, German, Portuguese, or Spanish. These are the languages that represent a vast majority of our non-English-speaking audience and are the languages in which members can currently experience the Skillshare site.
At this time we are only accepting new 1-on-1 Sessions and digital products in English.
Daily Upload Limit
You may upload a maximum of 5 classes, 5 digital products and 5 1-on-1 Sessions per day.
Prohibited Content
Content that focuses on the following topics and topic areas are not permitted on Skillshare:
- Quick payout business strategies, amassing fast followers, or promising static monetary rewards or outcomes (e.g. guaranteed monetary payouts, promises to make money fast or gain followers fast).
- Unethical or manipulative business practices (e.g. pyramid schemes, ponzi schemes, multi-level marketing, manipulative sales practices).
- Illegal activity.
- Instructions for building, selling, or using weapons, or any content involving weapons or physical harm, including self-defense or self-defense featuring weapons.
- Instructions related to cannabis or cannabis-related products, including cultivation, sale, or monetization.
- Access to nudity or explicit content meant to be sexually gratifying.
- Romantic, sexual, interpersonal, or intimate relationships (e.g. parenting, identifying personality types, interpreting body language, dating).
- Ethical hacking
- Medical content or that are related to the medical field (e.g. holistic medicine, how-to diagnose, first aid, CPR, promising mental or physical health benefits/cures)
- Disinformation, pseudoscience, or deceptive and manipulative content.
- Religion or spirituality and are presented in a manner to proselytize (e.g. any religious sect, astrology, numerology, tarot, crystal healing).
- Content that focuses on or consistently references politics, including political endorsements, campaign fundraising, or political advocacy.
- Mathematics, standardized testing, physical and life sciences (e.g. biology, chemistry, physics, neuroscience, etc.).
- Fitness and/or exercise beyond meditation, yoga, or dance (e.g. bodybuilding, strength training, body transformation, weight management or weight loss, dieting, meal planning for weight management).
- Beauty regimens or cosmetology (e.g. skin, hair, and nail health and maintenance, creating beauty aesthetics, specific looks, or daily routines).
- Pet care (e.g. grooming and training of domestic pets, as well as livestock and general wildlife
- Advice or resources that should be obtained by a certified professional (e.g. survival skills, medical, legal, financial, investment, real estate, accounting, or tax advice) Exception: Financial advice is allowed only if the product includes a clear disclaimer stating it is not intended as investment, tax, or financial planning advice. Teachers must also comply with any applicable legal requirements, including disclosing SEC or other regulatory registration where relevant.
- Content that displays or promotes dangerous activities and/or the use of harmful and hazardous materials.
- Gaming (e.g. how-to play a board games, card games, cheat codes, video game walk-throughs, sweepstakes, gambling, couponing).
- Setting up a home business (e.g., setting up a home office, how to purchase the right computer/software, or how to set up a computer).
Prohibited Formats for Digital Products
In addition to the content restrictions listed above, we do not allow content that is comprised of or includes any of the following in digital products offered on Skillshare:
- Immaterial or abstract items (e.g. prayers, blessings).
- Selling a service such as creating websites, logos, or design themes for compensation.
- Licensing your name or likeness to promote third-party products.
- Physical goods, including dropshipping or print-on-demand.
- Resold or plagiarized materials, including items sold under “master resell rights” or without proper rights.
- Required resources for a Skillshare class. Assets needed to complete a class must be available for free under Projects & Resources.
- “Tip jar” or “donation” listings.
- Donation-based pricing. All digital products must have a set price.
- Items offered elsewhere for free or at a lower price.
- Digital products that consist solely of a shared link. Exception: For select formats (e.g. Notion templates, Canva templates, Adobe presets, LUTs), a link may be included within a downloadable PDF.
- Any of the following file types — whether individually uploaded, in any quantity, or included within a zipped/archived file: .ade, .adp, .apk, .appx, .appxbundle, .bat, .cab, .chm, .cmd, .com, .cpl, .diagcab, .diagcfg, .diagpkg, .dll, .dmg, .ex, .ex_, .exe, .hta, .img, .ins, .iso, .isp, .jar, .jnlp, .js, .jse, .lib, .lnk, .mde, .mjs, .msc, .msi, .msix, .msixbundle, .msp, .mst, .nsh, .pif, .ps1, .scr, .sct, .shb, .sys, .vb, .vbe, .vbs, .vhd, .vxd, .wsc, .wsf, .wsh, .xll.
