This article outlines upcoming changes to your monthly teacher earnings. Our goal with this update is to better support the Skillshare community, reward teachers who are actively engaging with their students, and help teachers earn more meaningful income. When teachers stay involved - by answering questions, sharing updates, and creating new classes - it leads to stronger student and teacher experiences.
What’s Staying the Same
Teachers will continue to need at least 75 total minutes watched by members on an active subscription across all published classes in a given month in order to qualify for a royalty payment.
What’s New
Beginning January 1, 2026, the following update will go into effect:
50 Follower Minimum Requirement to qualify for royalties
Details on this change is outlined below.
Minimum 50 Follower Requirement
Starting January 1, 2026, teachers must have at least 50 followers on Skillshare to qualify for a royalty payout.
If you currently have 50+ followers, you will continue to qualify as long as you maintain this number.
Why This Change Is Being Made
- Engagement is central to the Skillshare experience and we want to recognize teachers who publish regularly, engage with students, and grow their presence on the platform! We find that many teachers publish a single class and never return to the platform, which spreads very small earnings across a large group of inactive accounts. 90% of the teachers who will no longer qualify under this new requirement were earning less than $5/month. A minimum follower threshold helps us reduce situations where inactive accounts receive payments.
- It’s important to note that a smaller following does not reflect the quality of your content – many excellent teachers start there! This threshold is one simple safeguard to help us keep earnings focused on active, engaged teachers.
Growing your following directly increases your earning potential on Skillshare. As you build your audience and stay connected with your students, your watch time, engagement, and overall royalties naturally grow.
Thank You!
We appreciate your contribution to the Skillshare teaching community and the creativity and care you bring to your students every day!
